Why "no plugin" is the better approach

Most Google reviews solutions for WordPress come as plugins. That means another entry in your Plugins list, another thing to keep updated, another potential source of conflicts when WordPress or your theme updates, and often a paid upgrade before you get the features you actually need.

WeWidget works differently. It is a single <script> tag — plain HTML — that you paste into a Custom HTML block on any page. There is nothing to install in the WordPress admin, nothing to update when WordPress releases a new version, and no compatibility matrix to worry about.

Because it sits outside the WordPress plugin system entirely, it works with every theme (block themes, classic themes, Elementor, Divi) and continues working regardless of what else you change on your site.

Before you start

💡WordPress.com vs self-hosted: If you are on WordPress.com (the hosted service), you need the Business plan or higher to add custom code. If you installed WordPress yourself (self-hosted), there is no restriction.

Installing with the Block Editor (Gutenberg)

This is the default editor in WordPress 5.0 and later. If you are using a page builder, see the section below.

  1. 1

Get your embed code from WeWidget

Sign up at wewidget.app/signup (free trial, no card), connect your Google Business Profile, then go to Dashboard → Widget → Embed Code. Copy the full snippet.

  2. 2

Open the page or post you want to edit

In your WordPress admin (yoursite.com/wp-admin), go to Pages or Posts and open the one where you want the reviews to appear. Click Edit.

  3. 3

    Add a Custom HTML block

Click the + button to add a new block. Type "Custom HTML" in the search box and select it. A plain text editor block will appear.

  4. 4

    Paste the embed code

Paste the full WeWidget snippet into the Custom HTML block.

    <div data-review-widget="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></div>
    <script src="https://app.wewidget.app/widget.js"
      data-widget-id="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></script>
💡The widget will not render inside the Gutenberg editor preview — this is normal. Click "Preview" or "Update" then view the published page to confirm it is working.
  5. 5

    Publish or update the page

Click Publish (for a new page) or Update (for an existing one). Your Google reviews widget will appear immediately on the live page.

Using a page builder or the Classic Editor?

The snippet works the same way regardless of your editor. Here is where to paste it:

Elementor

Drag an HTML widget onto your layout (search "HTML" in the elements panel). Paste your snippet into the HTML field.

Divi

Add a Code module to your section or row. Paste the snippet into the Code field and save.

Classic Editor

Open the page in the Classic Editor. Switch from Visual mode to Text (HTML) mode using the tab in the top-right of the editor. Paste the snippet at the point in the content where you want the widget to appear.

Sidebar or footer (widget areas)

Go to Appearance → Widgets. Find the sidebar or footer widget area, add a Custom HTML widget, and paste your snippet into it.

Want the widget on every page?

Instead of adding it to individual pages, you can add it sitewide by placing it in a widget area that appears on every page (such as the footer), or by adding it directly to your theme's footer template. The most practical approach for most sites:

  1. Go to Appearance → Widgets
  2. Find your footer widget area
  3. Add a Custom HTML widget
  4. Paste your WeWidget snippet and click Save

This works with any classic theme that has a footer widget area. Block themes handle widget areas differently — use the Site Editor (Appearance → Editor) to add a Custom HTML block to your footer template instead.

Your embed snippet

This is the snippet you'll paste into your Custom HTML block. Sign in to get your version with your actual widget ID.

<div data-review-widget="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></div>
<script src="https://app.wewidget.app/widget.js"
  data-widget-id="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></script>

Sign in at wewidget.app/login to get your real widget ID in place of "YOUR-WIDGET-ID".

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with my theme?
Yes. WeWidget is a plain HTML snippet — not a plugin — so there are no theme compatibility issues. It works with every WordPress theme including block themes, classic themes, and page builder themes.
Does it work with Elementor?
Yes. In Elementor, drag an HTML widget onto your page and paste the WeWidget snippet into it. It works with both Elementor Free and Pro.
Does it work with Divi?
Yes. In the Divi Builder, add a Code module to your page and paste the snippet there.
Does it require self-hosted WordPress?
Yes, for the snippet approach. If you are on WordPress.com, you need a Business plan or higher, which allows adding custom HTML via a Code block. If you are on WordPress.com Personal or Free, custom code is not supported.
Will it break if I update WordPress?
No. Because WeWidget is not a plugin, WordPress updates have no effect on it. There is nothing to update, no compatibility to check, and no version conflicts.
Can I add it to the WordPress widget area (sidebar or footer)?
Yes. Go to Appearance → Widgets, find the area you want (sidebar, footer, etc.), and add a Custom HTML widget. Paste your WeWidget snippet into it and save. It will appear in that widget area across your site.
