Reviews that look like they belong on your Squarespace site

Squarespace is built around visual consistency. Most review widgets look out of place — they bring their own fonts, card styles, and colour schemes that clash with a carefully composed template. That friction between your site's aesthetic and a widget that looks imported can undermine the trust you're trying to build.

WeWidget's customiser lets you match the widget's card colours, border radius, and text treatment to your Squarespace palette before you ever paste any code. The result is a reviews section that reads as part of your design, not bolted on top of it.

Setup uses the standard Squarespace Code block — no developer needed, no third-party integrations to authorise, nothing added to your Squarespace dashboard beyond a single block on a single page.

⚠️

Squarespace Business plan required

Code blocks and Code Injection are available on the Business plan and above. They are not available on the Personal plan. If you are on Personal, you would need to upgrade your Squarespace subscription to add custom code to your site.

Before you start

Adding the widget to a Squarespace page

Using a Code block in the Squarespace page editor. Works on both Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1.

  1. 1

Get your embed code from WeWidget

Sign up at wewidget.app/signup (free trial, no card), connect your Google Business Profile, and copy your embed code from Dashboard → Widget → Embed Code.

  2. 2

Open the page you want to edit

In your Squarespace dashboard, go to Pages and click to edit the page where you want the reviews to appear.

  3. 3

Click the section where you want the widget

Hover over a section in the page editor until the Edit button appears. Click it to enter section editing mode.

  4. 4

    Add a Code block

Click the + button to add a new block to the section. Scroll through the block types and select Code.

💡If you do not see a Code block option, your Squarespace plan does not include custom code. Code blocks require a Business plan or higher. See the note about plans below.
  5. 5

    Paste your embed code

In the Code block editor, switch the mode to HTML (not Display Source). Paste the full WeWidget snippet and click Apply.

    <div data-review-widget="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></div>
    <script src="https://app.wewidget.app/widget.js"
      data-widget-id="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></script>
  6. 6

    Save and publish

Click Save, then publish your changes if prompted. The widget will appear on the live page immediately. It will not render inside the Squarespace editor preview — open the live page to confirm it is working.

💡The widget renders on the published page, not inside the Squarespace editor. This is normal behaviour for custom code blocks.

Adding the widget to every page at once

If you want your Google reviews to appear on every page of your Squarespace site — for example in a consistent footer section — use Code Injection instead of a per-page Code block:

  1. Go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection
  2. Paste your full WeWidget snippet into the Footer field
  3. Click Save

The snippet will load on every page automatically. Note that Code Injection injects code into the page footer — the widget will still render wherever your <div> placeholder is placed. If you want it in a consistent visual location on every page, combine the <div> in a footer section and the <script> in Code Injection.

Effective placements on a Squarespace site

Services page — alongside your service descriptions

Service businesses get the most value from reviews adjacent to their service offerings. A visitor reading about your photography packages or consulting services sees real client feedback in the same scroll.

Homepage — below the hero section

Establishes credibility before the visitor scrolls further. Particularly valuable for personal brands and sole traders where the homepage is the primary conversion surface.

About page — below your bio or team section

The About page is where prospective clients decide whether they like you. Reviews here reinforce the personal connection before they make contact.

Contact page — above the contact form

Visitors who have reached the contact page are close to converting. Reviews just above the form remove final hesitation.

Your embed snippet

Paste this into a Squarespace Code block (set to HTML mode) or into Settings → Advanced → Code Injection → Footer for sitewide use.

<div data-review-widget="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></div>
<script src="https://app.wewidget.app/widget.js"
  data-widget-id="YOUR-WIDGET-ID"></script>

Sign in at wewidget.app/login to get your real widget ID in place of "YOUR-WIDGET-ID".

Frequently asked questions

Do Code blocks require a paid Squarespace plan?
Yes. Code blocks (and Code Injection) are available on the Business plan and above. They are not available on the Personal plan or the free trial. If you are on Personal, you would need to upgrade to Business to use custom code on Squarespace.
Does it work on Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1?
Yes, both versions support Code blocks in the page editor. The steps are the same. If you are on 7.1 (the current version), the editor interface looks slightly different but the Code block is in the same location.
Why is the widget not appearing in the Squarespace editor?
Squarespace does not execute external JavaScript inside its editing interface — this is a Squarespace platform restriction, not a WeWidget issue. The widget will display correctly on the published page. Click "View live page" or "Preview" to confirm it is working.
Can I add the widget to every page on my Squarespace site at once?
Yes. Go to Settings → Advanced → Code Injection. Paste the full WeWidget snippet into the Footer section. This injects the code into the footer of every page on your site automatically. You only need to do this once.
Will the widget match my Squarespace template design?
WeWidget's customiser lets you set card background colour, text colour, and border style to match your Squarespace template. Open your WeWidget dashboard, go to the Widget customiser, and adjust the colours to fit your palette before copying the embed code.
Can I use an Embed block instead of a Code block?
The Embed block is designed for content from specific services (YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and does not support arbitrary JavaScript. You need to use a Code block, not an Embed block, to add WeWidget.
