What WeWidget can — and cannot — do with your Google account

Why Google's permission screen sounds scarier than this

When you connect, Google shows a checkbox worded “See, edit, create and delete your Google business listings”. That wording is Google's, not ours — Google offers exactly one permission levelfor Business Profiles. There is no read-only option, so every app that displays Google reviews — ours and every competitor's — has to ask for this same permission. What matters is what an app actually does with it, and everything WeWidget does is listed above.

You may notice some review widgets skip this screen entirely and just ask for your business name. Google's official APIs don't allow that for full review history — those tools get their data by scraping Google's pages instead, which Google's terms prohibit and which breaks whenever Google changes its site. WeWidget never scrapes: we use Google's official APIs only. The moment of honesty on this checkbox is the price of a widget that keeps working.

Google leaves the checkbox unticked by default, so here is the screen you'll see and the one box to tick:

Proof, not promises

• We request two permissions only:your Business Profile (Google's single permission level, above) and your email address. Nothing else is asked for, so nothing else can be accessed.
• Your connection is encrypted at rest (AES-256) on our servers. We never see or store your Google password.
• Disconnecting really disconnects. Removing your business in the WeWidget dashboard revokes our access with Google itself and deletes the stored connection and cached reviews from our side.
• You don't need our permission to cut us off.You can revoke WeWidget's access directly with Google at myaccount.google.com/permissions — it takes effect immediately and doesn't involve us at all.
• We're bound by Google's rules too. Our use of Google data follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements — see our privacy policy.

Prefer not to connect Google at all?

You don't have to. Search for your business by name inside WeWidget and we'll pull your publicGoogle reviews with no Google login of any kind — most of our customers connect this way. The trade-off is honest: Google's public data includes only your five most recent written reviews, so connecting your profile is what unlocks the full history. Both paths give you a working widget.
